Hydraulic Stack Parking System

It is a parking solution that uses hydraulic platforms to park vehicles vertically, one above the other, within the footprint of a single parking space. This means two or more cars can be accommodated where you would normally fit only one — a practical option for buildings where ground space is limited but a bit of vertical room is available.

The system is operated by hydraulic lift. When the hydraulic pump is switched on, pressure is applied to the cylinder and the platform is raised. When the pressure is released the platform descends in a controlled and safe way.

For two sedans, a clear height of around 3.6 metres is generally sufficient. If the upper level needs to accommodate an SUV, that requirement goes up to roughly 4.2 metres. The exact figure depends on vehicle height, the thickness of the platform itself, and the safety clearance built into the design — so getting your site measured is always the safer route before finalising a configuration.

Non-pit systems sit entirely above ground and need more ceiling clearance instead. If your site has restricted headroom, a pit-based design is usually the better fit; if digging a pit is not feasible, a non-pit configuration works without any civil excavation.

Most stack parking systems are designed for two or three levels. A two-level system effectively doubles the capacity of a single parking spot, while a three-level (triple stacker) system can triple it, though this needs considerably more vertical space — typically upwards of 5.4 metres for three sedans. The right number of levels depends on how much height your building can offer.

Standard safety features include anti-collision sensors that prevent platforms from coming into contact with each other or with parked vehicles, locking mechanisms that hold each platform securely in place, and sensors that check vehicle positioning before the system operates. Many systems also include a programmable control interface so movement is predictable and operator-controlled rather than automatic.

Quarterly servicing is the typical recommendation, similar to other hydraulic parking systems. This usually covers checking hydraulic fluid levels and hoses, lubricating the platform's moving parts, and testing the sensors and locking mechanisms. Many manufacturers tie this into an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) at the time of purchase, which keeps servicing on schedule without it being something you have to remember to arrange.

Yes, most stack parking systems are designed for both interior and exterior use, with weather-resistant coatings and components that can withstand outdoor exposure. That said, having a covered structure over the system does help to reduce the long term wear on the hydraulic components and electrical parts, especially in areas with heavy rain.

A stack parking system moves vehicles purely vertically, with cars positioned directly above one another.
